Emotional Rollercoaster

Emotional rollercoaster day at the farmhouse!

Today we met with our electrician.  We spent approximately an hour reviewing the electrical highlights of our new home.  Honestly, I never thought such things would make me so excited.  Our electrician went through each room pointing out where each outlet, switch, and light fixture would be.  He said that he and his team would finish the wiring in just two days.  The inspection should be completed this week as well. Another step forward!

We added a few things such as places where quad outlets would be instead of the normal duplex.  These mainly would be around the television and fish tanks.  Many of the areas that I had determined I wanted outlets, they were already included!  One example is the outlets on either side of the kitchen island. Great minds think alike.  In addition, we requested roughing in for 4 ceiling fans.  We decided to only go so far as to do the roughing in, not the full install at this time.  We pointed out where we wanted a few of the light fixtures when slight modification was an option.

Tom and I got a lot of information about how future possible plans could be incorporated into the design.  We shouldn’t have any trouble getting power to any outbuildings like a barn, even if Tom decides to do welding, nor for adding solar panels or wind turbines.

On a sad (or scary!) note, we had a water problem again.  It was pouring when we got to the house, so Tom checked the basement immediately.  It had rained nearly 3 inches in 24 hours and someone had unplugged the sump pump from the temporary power line.  Without gutters, downspouts, and runoff trenches (and no running sump pump!) we ended up with very deep pools right next to the foundation all around the outside and a swimming pool in the basement.  It gets worse – the furnace had been delivered this last week.  Fortunately, the bottom of the furnace was still above the water line.  Our builder arrived and got the power hooked up again and the sump pump doing its job.  Before we left we saw that the water line was dropping already.
